Justice Merathia (Retd.) began an illustrious legal career in 1973 and established himself as a leading lawyer before the Ranchi Bench of the Patna High Court between late 1970’s and early 1980’s. As an Advocate, he handled a wide variety of cases such as writs of different nature, civil and matters, banking matters. Over a period of time he specialized in revenue matters and cases relating to power sector. He was appointed as Additional Public Prosecutor and then appointed as Government Pleader in the High Court.

Biography

Justice Merathia (Retd.) was designated as Senior Advocate by Jharkhand High Court on 25.08.2002 and elevated as Judge of the High Court on 18.11.2002. He was appointed as the Executive Chairman of the High Court Legal Services Committee and the Jharkhand State Legal Service Authority. He was also the Chairman of State Project Monitoring Committee and published the Survey Report on “Access to Justice by poor and disadvantaged people”, under the aegis of Judicial Academy, Jharkhand; National Judicial Academy; Dept. of Justice, Government of India and United Nations Development Programme.

Justice Merathia (Retd.) was also a member of the Human Rights Commission and Governing body of Judicial Academy, Jharkhand. He was serving for a long period in the company portfolio before his superannuation on 17.08.2012. Among others, Justice Merathia (Retd.) held prestigious positions such as Chairman, Selection Committee under the Electricity Act (Regulatory Commission); Chairman, Selection Committee for Vice-Chancellor, Ranchi University. He was appointed as Chairman of Fee Fixation Committee constituted by Supreme Court for the private colleges in Jharkhand.

Justice Merathia (Retd.) was appointed as President, Jharkhand State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Ranchi from January 2014 to August 2017 and during his tenure the Commission achieved a filing-disposal-ratio of 94% being a landmark one.

He has been serving as Arbitrator and is conducting several arbitration cases referred by the High Court.
