PM CARES FUND- ELIGIBILITY FOR CSR FUNDS
The Covid-19 pandemic has in fact brought out a distress situation not only in the nation but all across the world, in the wake of this the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund’ (PM CARES Fund) has been set up as public charitable trust to aid and provide relief to the affected during such emergency and distress situations. The Prime Minister of India is the Chairman of this trust and its Members include the Defence Minister, the Home Minister and the Finance Minister.
The Ministry of Corporate affairs on 23.03.2020 vide its General Circular No. 10/2020 notified that any spending on the Covid -19 under items nos. (i) and (xii) of Schedule VII would be eligible for CSR funding. In furtherance to this, The Ministry of Corporate Affairs on 28.03.2020 vide its Memorandum eFNo. CSR-05/1/2020- CSR-MCA notified that any contribution made to the PM CARES Fund shall qualify as CSR expenditure under the Companies Act 2013.
This has provided a mainstream and organized method of appropriating and making sure that the funds are used for the right purpose in this time of the lockdown.
